The idea of supplying its own agricultural operation with energy from wind power led to the establishment of ECOwind as a company in 1995.
It built the largest plant in Austria in its day, with capacity of 250 kW, a tower height of 26m and rotor diameter of 40m.
In subsequent years, ECOwind evolved from a local seller of wind turbines to the project designer and general contractor for the whole of Central Europe that it is today.

ECOwind′s success developed in parallel with the size of the wind turbines, and we are proud of the fact that in 2005, we built what is currently the most powerful plant in the Alpine region at 1,500m above sea level with capacity of 2.3 MW, and the most profitable wind farm in Austria.
Starting in 2006, the first wind farm shall be planned and executed in the neighbouring new EU member states.
