ECOwind - the background
Development, planning and construction of wind power and photovoltaic plants. From the idea of supplying the company site with energy from its own wind turbine, the then 5th wind turbine in Austria was erected by our managing director Johann Janker in 1995.
Wind power and solar energy, the cleanes energy generation
ECOwind is an Austrian pioneer in wind power. At the same time as the performance of the wind turbines has increased, ECOwind has also developed from an Austrian supplier of wind turbines to a project developer and general contractor in the central south-eastern European region.
In 2019, ECOwind’s scope of activities was expanded to include the solar division, and since then multi-megawatt solar parks have been developed and realised in Austria and Southeastern Europe. Due to our affiliation with BayWa r.e., we can leverage the group’s strength in all areas and, in addition to ground-mounted systems, also apply special fields of application such as our own floating system and solutions for agri PV.
We are a competent partner – from the search for a suitable location – to project development – to the turnkey construction of a wind & solar farm. Thanks to our many years of experience as a technical operator, we ensure optimum yields and high availability throughout the entire service life.

What makes us outstanding
We are a full-service provider for wind and solar farm projects. As a small company with flat hierarchies, we are able to act quickly, but our owner, BayWa r.e., gives us the capital strength of a global group.
Development
From the initial planning and implementation of our own plants, we developed into a specialist for alpine and complex projects. Encouraged by the positive experience, also outside the Austrian border, ECOwind expanded to South-Eastern Europe. In order to optimally master project development and the associated country-specific requirements, subsidiaries were founded in Croatia and Romania.
