Great interest in the wind farm project Compedal

On Sunday 7 April, Elektrowerk Assling (EWA) and ECOwind organised an information afternoon on the wind farm project Compedal in East Tyrol. Between 2pm and 7pm, numerous visitors came to the multi-purpose hall in Assling to find out more about the wind farm project and the potential of wind power in the region.

The presentations by experts from Energieagentur Tirol and REVITAL provided detailed insights into the technical, ecological, and economic aspects of the wind power project. They also emphasised the importance of energy independence, which can be achieved by using local renewable resources. The subsequent discussion rounds allowed for an open dialogue in which participants were able to ask questions and express their concerns.

Wind farm runs through Umweltverträglichkeitsprüfung (Environmental Impact Assessment)

The wind farm on the Compedal high alpine plateau in the municipality of Assling could be one of the first wind projects to be realised in Tyrol. The planned wind farm will comprise a total of seven wind turbines at an altitude of between 2,100 and 2,300 metres above sea level. There are already well-developed forest roads around the Compedal site that can be used as access routes. The development of the wind farm is a carefully regulated process that is subject to an Umweltverträglichkeitsprüfung (Environmental Impact Assessment).

With a predicted annual production of approx. 65 million kWh of electricity, around 13,000 single-family homes can be heated with a heat pump in the future, according to Energieagentur Tirol.

Wind measurement planned for this year

A one-year wind measurement is planned this year. The measurement over 12 months serves to record the wind conditions in all seasons. An 80-metre-high measuring mast will be erected for this purpose, which will use anemometers and wind vanes to measure the wind speed and wind direction at several heights. In advance, measurements carried out by the state have shown that the Compedal site is very suitable for a wind farm project.

Technical data (planning status February 2024)
Nominal output per wind turbine 4.26 MW
Total output of 7 wind turbines 29.82 MW
Hub height 111 m
Rotor diameter 138 m
Annual production 65.000.000 kWh
